Vaginal Mesh Makers May Be Settling All Lawsuits
There are as many as 30,000 lawsuits that are included and the number is expected to grow to 50,000 as more women come forward.
Report after report keep coming to the fore about women who are battling vaginal mesh implant complications. A vaginal mesh is a medical device that is surgically inserted inside a woman to treat pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence. However, vaginal mesh procedures are proving to have a long and disturbing catalog of physical problems associated with them.
Manufacturers of vaginal mesh products like C.R. Bard Inc. and Coloplast USA, are apparently involved in settlement talks. There are as many as 30,000 lawsuits that are included and the number is expected to grow to 50,000 as more women come forward and seek to join the potential settlement.
Johnson & Johnson is another manufacturer of vaginal mesh products. Although they are apparently not involved in this particular settlement, they face thousands of lawsuits over their vaginal devices.
Vaginal Mesh Complications
Women who have had the vaginal mesh device implanted are told that they will find relief from their conditions. However, many women experience more issues afterwards. Many have been the victim of improper implantation, while others have experienced excruciating pain when the mesh fails to support the lower abdomen. For some, the mesh moves and cuts through the pelvic and vaginal tissues, causing a lot of pain. When this happens, the mesh is removed surgically. However, in some cases the mesh cannot be removed completely or too much damage has been done to reverse the problems. Sometimes multiple surgeries are required.
Vaginal Mesh Lawsuits
In addition to the initial pain and discomfort a woman may experience as a result of the implantation, there are a number of other injuries that these women are seeking compensation for. Some of these may include:
- Pain and Suffering
- Loss of the ability to have sexual relations
- Their spouses loss of consortium
- Emotional distress
- Medical expenses
- Loss of income
