Boone Bridge Truck Accident
If you or a loved one has been the victim of a truck accident it is important to get immediate help.
On Wednesday November 29, 2012 there was a truck accident on the Boone Bridge in Chesterfield, Missouri. The accident happened around 11 a.m. The westbound section of I-64 was closed for at least a couple of hours.
While all of the details have not yet been released, is was reported that the accident involved two tractor trailers, one of which jackknifed, causing the accident. There has been no report of injuries.
After the accident the trucks were reported to have moved off of the bridge. However, what caused the highway to be shut down was the fact that mechanical fluids that spilled due to the accident had to be cleaned up before traffic could proceed.
Jackknifing refers to the dangerous situation where the cab of a tractor trailer gets out of sync with its trailer and ends up resembling the shape of an acute angle, such as the angle of a folding pocket knife. This creates a dangerous situation, especially for the other vehicles sharing the road with the truck.
While the truck accident on the Boone Bridge apparently involved no other passenger vehicles, this is unfortunately usually not the case. Many smaller cars and SUV’s end up being the victims of such situations. The reasons that cause a truck to jackknife can vary. It may be due to poor weather conditions. Often it is due to the inattention of the truck driver to the road conditions. It may also be that the driver is not properly trained to know how to avoid or correct the situation that causes the truck to jackknife.
If you or a loved one has been the victim of a truck accident it is important to get immediate help. The longer you wait to contact a truck accident attorney, the harder it will be for your lawyer to gather critical evidence needed to prove negligence, carelessness or a violation of the rules and regulations governing motor carriers. Evidence may be lost or even destroyed soon after an accident.
